Island HCs
🌅 Residents of the island are called Pinatan or simply islanders.
🌅 The island was initially inhabited by various Latino and Polynesian immigrants. Eventually, the cultures became a melting pot with what we now refer to as Pinatan culture.
🌅 The reason it was only Latinos and Polynesians initially immigrating to the island is because the island itself is in the Pacific ocean around halfway between Oceania and South America.
🌅 When islanders turn 15, they are given a coming-of-age celebration. One of the big features of said celebration is a ritualistic tattooing, where the markings given to an islander are unique to the person but also can have connections and similarities to markings of family or loved ones.
🌅 The island is very community-oriented, meaning that your neighbour may as well be blood-related to you with how familiarly they will treat you.
🌅 Anyone who immigrates and plans on staying is welcome to partake in all aspects of Pinatan culture, even being able to retroactively receive their personal markings. However, it's more common for the true cultural partaking to occur starting with the children of immigrants.
🌅 Most current immigrants to the island are still of Latino or Polynesian descents, although there has been a small increase in immigrants of other ethnicities.
